About

Who am I

My name is Ei (pronounced like the letter “E”).

My journey towards ancestral nature based living skills began in 2008 when I first did a course with Nature Philosophy.  It radically changed my relationship to nature by engaging with the materials of the land through practical skills.

My favourite skills include traditional leather tanning, traditional foods, preservation and fermentation, foraging, weaving and pottery.

Why I tan

These days I focus my teaching efforts on traditional leather tanning because our society is forgetting how to use the local materials available to us for clothing in a time of fast fashion, cheap imports and synthetic fibres.

With so many skins going to waste, my workshops support students to learn about how to use it so that we can reduce our impact on the environment.

I often think of tanning as like alchemy, where a base material of little value, raw skin, is transformed through multiple processes into wearable, luxuriant material.

Come and learn about how we once clothed ourselves and get involved in preserving this fascinating process.
